Values We Are Measured Against
Every institution chooses a standard. Ours is drawn from five people who are not here to approve of us, and whose best qualities are harder to live up to than any certification. Before content is published on this site — and before any assisted revision of it is accepted — it is reviewed against these five standards.
These are aspirations and self-measurement. No endorsement, affiliation, or association with any of the individuals named, or with their estates, is claimed or implied.

Rigor, and the questioning of inherited assumptions
First-principles reasoning before optimization within an inherited frame. Humility about what is not yet known, and a refusal to overstate a result because the result would be more useful if it were larger. Where our research is exploratory, we say so on the page.

The conviction that the next era of power and propulsion will not arrive by scaling the last one. Imagination disciplined by engineering. This is the founding idea of the Quantum Propulsion Research Laboratory and the reason the phrase Beyond Rocketry™ exists at all.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Exploration is a shared human inheritance rather than the property of any one nation or company, and clear public explanation is a form of respect for the reader — not a marketing exercise.

Endurance through repeated failure, plain and honest speech, and institution-building meant to outlast any individual. Progress here is measured over decades rather than quarters, and failure is treated as data rather than as something to be hidden.

The belief that detail is not decoration. Say less and mean more; remove the sentence, the component, or the process step that does not earn its place. An institution's care shows in the parts nobody was required to get right.
How the standard is applied
These five standards are not a wall plaque. They are encoded in the institutional language policy that governs how this website is written and revised. Proposed copy is reviewed against each lens in turn, and a revision that strains any of them is rejected before it reaches a page — including revisions that would have performed better in search.
The practical consequence is visible throughout the site: exploratory research is labeled as exploratory, capability claims carry alignment disclosures, and the company's own description does not change to suit an audience.
An institution is judged over decades. We would rather be slow and accurate than early and wrong.
